Relocation and Conservation of the late 19th century Civil War Cyclorama to its new home at the Lloyd
and
Mary Anne Whitaker Cyclorama Building on the Atlanta History Center Campus at Buckhead, Atlanta, Georgia.
The 12-meter high canvas, 100 meters in length is to be scrolled in two fifty-meter sections onto two
scrolls built of stainless steel tube segments, lifted out of building, transported to, rehung
and
conserved at the newly constructed building.
The Cyclorama is one of more than 20 that once existed in the U.S., many painted by a group of
German
artists who had settled in Milwaukee. These vast art constructions were designed for the entertainment
and education of the public. Only two remain to be visited in the U.S., one in Atlanta
another in Gettysburg.
